Changes to our program

Due to the tragic event last Friday in Oslo and at Utøya there will be some changes to the planned programme during The Tall Ships Races 2011 this week in Stavanger.

We very much want the event to be in line with the fundamental idea of STIS charter:

Sail Training International (STI) is to develop and educate young people through sail training, regardless of nationality, culture, religion, gender or social background.

TSRs website will continuously be updated with the changes made:

  • We want TSR2011 in Stavanger to implement the spirit that underlies the entire race, namely fraternization through sailing.
  • We want the event to be conducted with dignity and with reflection and respect for those affected by the events in Oslo and Utøya.
  • The tragic events will be commemorated during the opening ceremony.
  • We will encourage our artists to wear black mourning bands as a symbol of respect which they can choose to wear when performing concerts.
  • We encourage all ships to show dignity upon arrival by flagging at half mast when entering the Port of Stavanger.
  • We are in dialogue with STI so that the planned crew parade will focus on unity and relationships, keeping a low key on the "festive factor".
  • We work with local entertainment to reduce the festivities in the harbor. Restaurants and bars will close their outdoor table service at 2300 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We encourage the public to contribute to a worthy and respectful setting for the event.
  • Fireworks on Saturday will be scaled down.
  • Salute Calls for the ships upon arrival at Port of Stavanger is canceled

There may also be additional changes made at short notice, make sure you check our webpages regulary on www.tallships.no.
