Marks of respect in Lerwick

The flags were at half mast on all ships, in the city and at the airport in Lerwick on Sunday. A memorial service was also held at the largest venue during the Tall Ships' Races in Lerwick to mark the tragic events in Norway.

Nearly 700 people gathered in grief over what happened in Norway. Those attending were representatives from all ships with many Norwegian participants, but also many local residents from Lerwick attended.

The priest was from Shetland and he underlined the strong ties between Norway and Shetland in his speech.
He also encouraged everyone to join hands and help and support each other.

Statsraad Lehmkuhl which is the largest Norwegian ship, invited all the Norwegian participants to a moment of reflection.

At least 300 people filled the forecastle of Lehmkuhl in a worthy gathering that made ​​it possible to update all the Norwegian participants in the Tall Ships in Lerwick. There are Norwegian participants on many ships, in addition to the Norwegian vessels.

People from Lerwick also delivered condolences and flowers at several Norwegian ships, and wished in this way to show sympathy and respect in a difficult time for Norway.
