Jørn Snorre Andersen |
- This is a job I am very excited over. The city of Stavanger has had wonderful festivals earlier with the Tall Ships’ Race, and now there are very high expectations in both the city and the region to the next big event in Stavanger.
Jørn Snorre Andersen was born in 1967 and grew up in Langesund in Telemark. He moved to Stavanger in 1992. As a teacher of music, specialising in vocal training, he has a somewhat different background than what could be expected for this job. However, who says you don’t need a creative soul to put all the pieces together for making a great event!
Andersen is a trained teacher of singing from Østlandets Music Conservatory, and has two years of continuing education in singing and conducting at Rogaland Music Conservatory. In addition to this, he studied singing with Maestro Claudio Thiol in Castelfranco, Italy since 1995.
Before moving to Stavanger, he lived a year in Italy where he studied Italian and song.
After moving to Stavanger Andersen has taught music at St. Svithun high school since 1996, and directed the Student Choral Society Stavanger and Sandnes Opera Choir. In 1995 he started Stavanger Vocal Ensemble, which he still conducts.
From August 2007 he took a leave of absence from work as a teacher at St. Svithun to work in Stavanger2008 organization, as project manager for the opening and closing ceremonies.
From January 2009 is Jørn Snorre Andersen hired as project manager for the Tall Ships’ Race 2011 in Stavanger.
Growing up just a few metres from the sea, Jørn Snorre Andersen is not a great sailor. But as all Norwegians living on the coast, boats and sea life are part of childhood education. He grew, of course, like everyone else at the time, with his windsurfer, and got the basic understanding of wind and sails. But last summer, he hit the big waves sailing from Gdynia in Poland to St. Petersburg on “Sørlandet”.
- So now I am definitely a fan of sailing, and can’t wait to get out again on the high seas, he says.
