STI awarded safety prize

Sail Training International (STI) and their race director Paul Bishop were received the Ole Aga safety award.

They received the award during the prize-giving ceremony for the Tall Ships Races 2011 in Stavanger, Norway. The prize was awarded by the Norwegian Sail Training Alliance (NSTA).

STI and Mr. Bishop received the award for their work to improve safety in connection with the Tall Ships Race events.

During Mr. Bishop’s management, STI has made ​​a significant effort to focus strongly on safety for crews and ships.

The thousands of sailors who each year take part in the Tall Ships Races have learnt the importance of paying attention to safety all aspects of life at sea.

With this award, the NSTA board wishes to honour STI for their good work and to encourage the organisation continue their focus on safety.


Ole Aga

Norwegian Ole Aga was the leader of NSTA until he died at sea. His main concern was sail training with a strong emphasis on safety. Mr. Aga died on a sailing trip to Shetland in May 2011, despite safety equipment in perfect order and an experienced crew.
